Alam was born on 13 February 1966 in Dhaka, Bangladesh to a moderate and educated Muslim family. Her father was a Pakistani bank employee and her Bangladeshi mother, with two brothers and one sister. Her family emigrated to England in 1970, and she was grew up in the North East, living in Bradford, Northumberland and Newcastle. Later her mother moved to Seattle in the United States after her parents divorced. Her father died in 1997, and she was left with her family friends. She moved to London, there she was described as spending nights partying with friends.[1][2]
Alam initially came to the attention of the public after the revelation of her affair with Sven-Goran Eriksson and her relationship with Mark Palios in August 2004. The Mail on Sunday and News of the World published interviews with Alam where she was questioned about sex with Eriksson and Palios in "graphic detail". After making headlines again in 2007 when the Sun reported that she had accepted £8,000 in exchange for sex with an undercover reporter, Alam swiftly fled to Canada where she now lives in relative anonymity, an attempt to eescape negative media attention.[3]
In January 2006, Alam appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK. During her time on Big Brother she was perceived to have flirted with former NBA star Dennis Rodman. On 17 January 2006, while up for the public vote, she commented that the British public would "never let a black or Asian win" the show on the basis that the British establishment and/or media would not permit it. On 18 January 2006, she became the second housemate to be evicted. Ironically, a year later Shilpa Shetty won Celebrity Big Brother 2007 with Jermaine Jackson finishing second, whilst Brian Belo went on to win the 2007 series of Big Brother.
In 2006, Faria got a role in Britflick Cash and Curry playing a hitwoman. In an interview[4] she said of the role: "It was a role that presented itself to me and I took it on as one of life's experiences".
